Welcome to the Miss Muscatine Scholarship Program; home to Miss Muscatine and Muscatine's Outstanding Teen - preliminary competitions to Miss Iowa and Miss Iowa's Outstanding Teen. We invite you to learn about our organization and inquire about our competition.
The mission of the Miss Muscatine Scholarship Program is to provide opportunities to further the education of Iowa's young women and give back through community service. Not everyone can walk away with the crown, but everyone can walk away a changed individual.
To participate, each contestant must select a social cause as a platform which they present to the judges and to the community. Many contestants stay involved with their platforms long after competing, which is a great benefit to our society. In 2007, the Miss America Organization founded a national platform, the Children's Miracle Network, which all Miss contestants are required to raise money and awareness for. This is the way to ensure that those participating in the program are service-oriented individuals who want to make a difference in our world.
Miss America began in 1920 as a “beauty pageant”, but that is the old pageant. Today, we are looking for a real woman, not one who has been "trained" in pageants! The judges will be looking for someone who is relatable to her peers and who is a good role model for her community. She needs to be well-rounded and strong in all categories, not just one.
The Miss Muscatine Scholarship Program is an opportunity for young women to receive money to further their educational goals. We are a preliminary to the Miss Iowa and Miss America pageants. The Miss America Organization is the leading scholarship provider for women in the world. At the local level in 2012 we awarded over $10,000 to Miss Muscatine contestants & Miss Muscatine 2013 will again receive a $10,000 scholarship.
In addition to becoming knowledgeable about and involved with pertinent issues in today's society, contestants have a chance to learn public speaking and interview skills. In today's tough economic climate where jobs are limited, this experience is invaluable.
